Found by @joepaone / @beeelevated - The Replacements: Bastards of Young (1985). This is from a performance on SNL in early 1986.
Pet Shop Boys: Later Tonight (1986). A deeper track from Please, the album that spawned “West End Girls” and “Opportunities.”
Requested by Matt.
Hazel O’Connor: Will You (1981). When the Birmingham artist toured the UK in support her Breaking Glass album, she selected the then unknown Duran Duran to be her opening act.
PIL: This Is Not a Love Song (1983). Written to mock those who felt they were getting too commercial. Sara Bareilles released a song in 2007 with similar ire directed at her record label when they wanted her to write something sap-o-riffic. She called it Love Song, but it definitely wasn’t.
The Buggles: Video Killed the Radio Star (1979). Oh. My. God. The. Hair.
The Killing Joke: Love Like Blood (1985)
Rumor has it that “Jaz Coleman is currently writing a mass for choir and orchestra, comprising of Killing Joke’s music with the original lyrics translated into Latin for full chorus for a recording and two nights in London in 2011.” Published to wikipedia with an unverifiable source, should be interesting if it’s true.
Gang of Four: I Love a Man in Uniform (1982)
This song was banned in England because of the Falklands War.
